In just a few short days, the new Cisco 525G will ship to the public, and I could not be more excited!
For those who do not know, the Cisco 525G is the First integrated WiFi and Blue-tooth Business Desktop IP Phone. What does this mean? Well, for starters, no more cluttered cables on your desk! With a Single cable for power, this phone can connect to your office wireless network! This option will give users a lot of flexibility within the office.
Imagine that your company is moving their office to a new location, and they arrive in their new building only to find that there are no existing Ethernet cable drops! Normally, this would force your IT Staff (Or if you don’t have a full time IT, you yourself!) to have to setup an entire office network from scratch. But with the Cisco 525G, just set up a desk and let your phone scan for a wireless network! No cables, no mess! The 525 has dual Ethernet ports to provide LAN connectivity to your PC, so you can just pop your PC into the phone, and with a proper Wi-Fi access point, your office will be ready to go. I managed to set up a new workstation and phone with a single, three foot Ethernet cable, using our in house Critical Links Edgebox Wi-Fi and PBX capabilities. For offices lacking a Wi-Fi set up, the 525G still supports a standard Ethernet connection, as well as power over Ethernet!
The 525G is also the first IP phone with native Blue-tooth integration, which makes pairing your blue-tooth headset to this phone quick, and easy. With a Sennheiser VMX Office Blue-tooth headset, I was able to pair with both my cell phone and desk phone, allowing me the ability to talk hands free from the minute I left the house in the morning, until the minute I got home that night! This unit also comes standard with a 2.5mm headset jack for older headsets and budge conscious customers.
There will be no compatibility issues here, as the Cisco 525G is fully SIP compliant, as well as Cisco’s SPCP protocol. The 525G is fully compliant with SIP based IP-PBX’s, like the previously mentioned Edgebox, as well as 3CX and Trixbox!
The 525G allows for XML web applications to display local news, weather and other personal content, and the display makes viewing these a real treat! This phone’s high-resolution 3.2 inch QVGA Color Display is a beauty! The 525G comes with many other bonus goodies, like a USB access point to allow for the connection of personal data drives, as well as a built in MP3 Player to play songs from a USB device! These functions make the 525G an all around media outlet! It is such a relief to have a phone on my desk that allows me to listen to some music, check my stocks and see the weather while work on paperwork at my desk. The 525G is a MUST for Tech Junkies and office workers alike!
